Athlete For a Day

Though this blog is supposed to be focused mainly on females learning more about sports, it's always fun to get a little help from the boys. Last time I asked my guy friends to help with the blog, the post was a hit, so I wanted to go for round two.

With so many athletes out there, it can be hard to one, keep track of them all, and two, figure out which are the best of the best.

I asked some guys "If you could be an athlete for one day, who would you be and why?"

I wasn't sure if I'd get answers based on how dominate the athlete was, who they were sleeping with, or what kind of life they live, and I ended getting a little bit of everything. Here are some of the boys' answers:

Wilt Chamberlain. Why? Because he has claimed to have slept with over 20,000 women.

I would be either Michael Jordan, cuz I could dominate the game of basketball and play professional baseball, or Joe DiMaggio, cuz he played for the Yanks, won titles, hit bombs, broke records and banged Marilyn Monroe.

Shaun White...Pulls hella hoes, represents the red, white and blue any chance he has, and he can basically fly!

Tom Brady. I wouldn't play football on that day though. I would be "spending time" with my wife. You get my drift?

Since you're only giving me a day to live out my dream of being a professional athlete, I'd have to pick Andy Roddick. There wouldn't be any tennis played on that day either, I'm sure you know why. If I had more time I'd pick someone bigger, stronger and blacker.

I would like to be any athlete that plays a professional sport, especially an Olympian or competing for my country. The feeling that you would get as you stood there about to compete wearing your nations colors and hearing the national anthem would be overwhelming.

Pat Burrell. I would live in the greatest city, have a championship ring, and I could act like a douche bag and still hook up with tons of chicks.

Mike Fisher. One reason: Carrie Underwood.

Tiger Woods, duh. He has banged a lot of hot chicks and he's rich, bitch!

Roger Clemens so I could just come clean and save the public a bunch of tax money by avoiding another trial.

Manny Pacquiao because he is a badass.

Mike Tyson. I'm really, really into pigeons.

I would like to play quarterback for the university on Notre Dame and start.

I would be a major league third baseman. Don't care who - Matt Williams comes to mind though. Holding down the hot corner.

Tom Brady. Cuz who wouldn't want to have sex with a Victoria Secrets Model?

The boys pretty much settled the argument that guys really do have only one thing on their minds and it's a three letter word. At least they were honest, right?
Thanks again to all the guys who helped out!

Extra ESPY Awards

Like I mentioned in this post, the ESPYS (aka the sports version of the Oscars) took place last week in LA. Hopefully you were able to catch the show and drool over the eye candy walking the red carpet, but for those of you who missed out, a little awards of my own...

Best Looking Celebrity, Male
Ryan Reynolds, actor
Nothing, and I mean nothing can beat this face/body/everything.

Best Looking Celebrity, Female
Brooklyn Decker, model & actress (also married to tennis star Andy Roddick)
This model turned actress might be one of the only people on earth able to rock red leather.

Best Looking Athlete, Male
 Matt Kemp, LA Dodgers
Usually I don't go for anything-Dodgers, but the baseball star sure cleans up nicely.

and Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Can he get any cuter? Nope.

Best Looking Athlete, Female
Lindsey Vonn, US Ski Team racer
The Olympic skier looked bangin' in her sparkled mini.

Most Out of Place
Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez, entertainers
Biebs and his babe might have nothing to do with sports, but a few athletes did announce they had fallen for Bieber Fever.

Most Outrageous
Brian Wilson, SF Giants
I would expect nothing less from the always-entertaining B Wilson.

Hope you enjoyed the show!

Sigma Kappa Shoutout

Though my best years of college and sisterly "bonding" may be behind me, I'm lucky enough to remain attached at the hip to many of my Sigma Kappa sistas.

One of the main reasons I joined Sigma Kappa when I started Chico State was because they were athletic as hell. Not only were they athletic, but they won shit. Not only did they play sports and dominate, but they were totally girly at the same time.

From football to volleyball, girls from every sorority at Chico knew how to get down and dirty on the field (and some off the field). This just went to show that not all sorority girls were the stereotypical prissy-princess types.

Why the sorority blabber? Well, I just got word that Cosmos & Cleats will be featured in the Sigma Kappa magazine, The Triangle. Keep your eyes open as myself and the blog will be in an upcoming issue.

Just wanted to say a little thank you to all the readers and to all my Sigma Kappa sisters (and others!) who have been so supportive through this blog life.

One heart, one way babes!

2011 ESPY Awards

The ESPYS are the Oscars of the sports world, in addition to like a million more babes and way more laughs. The most popular athletes (and celebs who can't help but join the spotlight) from all over the world head to LA to take a look back at the past year in sports. Awards range from Athlete of the Year to Biggest Upset and everything in between.

Hosted by SNL comedian Seth Meyers, the show starts tonight at 9 pm ET on EPSN.

Some studs I'll be looking for on the red carpet:

Kelly Slater
Seeing this surfing sensation's perfect face never gets old.

Justin Timberlake
The always entertaining JT has a funny new skit for this year's show.

Aaron Rodgers
I'm extremely excited for this Chico-grown NFL champion to strut his stuff.
 photo via Jim Rome

Lamar Odom, Khloe Kardashian, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
Call me crazy, but I actually love everything about this family and their sporty beaus.

Dirk Nowitzki
Though Dirk won't be the sexiest man to grace the awards, he's worked hard and deserves all his praise.

And one couple that will be hard to miss...

David & Victoria Beckham
Since the glam couple just welcomed a baby girl to the world, I unfortunately doubt that they'll be attending the awards this year.

Ballers, babes and their bombshell wives. Do your best not to miss the show!

Petco vs. AT&T

I grew up hanging at the beach 24/7 and enjoying all San Diego has to offer, but I've lived in Northern Cal for the past seven years and have loved every minute of it.

Though I miss the Mexican food, warm temperatures and laid back feel of San Diego, San Francisco has grown on me more than I could have ever imagined.

Another thing that I left in San Diego were my beloved Padres. But being hundreds of miles away from SD has forced me to settle for Giants games at AT&T Park. At first I was a complete Padres snob and wanted nothing to do with anything Giants, including admitting that I secretly loved their stadium.

As I've gotten older and (slightly) less stubborn, I've decided that it's okay to be in love with a stadium and not necessarily a team. While my heart will ALWAYS be at Petco Park with the Padres, I've come to love and enjoy games at AT&T (though I will never ever ever root for the Giants).

I was lucky enough to attend a game at Petco and a Padres/Giants game at AT&T within the past month and wanted to do a little comparison to see which stadium is actually better.

Food: AT&T
Rated the favorite among all MLB stadiums, the folks at AT&T know the way to a baseball fan's heart. BOMB food.  (Though I wouldn't mind the option of a Rubio's fish taco like at Petco.)

Seating: Petco (by a smidge)
Though AT&T has a designated place for rowdy fans (thank you, bleachers!), Petco has a grassy field where you can layout a beach towel and watch the game from the outfield.

Location: Petco
Petco definitely has a better pre/afterparty scence by the field. With San Diego's lively Gaslamp within steps of the entrance, Padres fans are spoiled with endless restaurants and bars in walking distance.

Main Entrance: Petco
Sorry Willie Mays statue, but Petco's huge waterfall wall and palm tree walkway is something that can't be beat.

Parking: Petco
With a lot more room for parking and closer venues to tailgate, Petco beats out the insane traffic surrounding AT&T.

Scenery: AT&T
Nothing can beat the view from AT&T. The bay and Bay Bridge are the backdrop to the field and it's a gorgeous setting at any time of the day.

Coolness: Tie
Petco has the lively San Diego vibe surrounded by downtown skyscrapers, while AT&T has the beautiful views and lots of pride.

Fans: AT&T
I hate to admit this, but the Giants fans at AT&T put most Padres fans to shame. Even before the Giants won the World Series last year, the energy at AT&T has always been nuts. SF loves their team and the players love their city right back.

 photo via National Post

Both stadiums have their negatives and their positives. In SF you'll enjoy an electric atmosphere full of supportive fans, but you'll freeze your ass off. In SD you'll be in shorts and a tank, but you'll be surrounded by fans of the other team.

But you know what? You shouldn't have to wear a ski suit to a baseball game. Petco wins.

Whether you're in Southern Cal or Northern, you're in for a treat at a baseball game.

New Faces of Nike

While working on my tan and enjoying an ice cold beverage lakeside this past weekend, I came across a Nike ad in my Glamour. I was pretty disappointed with myself that I only recognized one of these female athletes (Maria Sharapova, second from the right) being such a sports-loving girl. Out of curiosity, I googled the ad and learned some more about not only these lovely ladies, but more about the Nike campaign.

From left to right
Australian surfer Laura Enever, British hurdler Perri Shakes-Drayton, US soccer goalie Hope Solo, Chinese tennis star Li Na, Algerian dancer Sofia Boutella, Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, US track and field sprinter Allyson Felix

The Nike "Make Yourself" ads are in place to promote a healthy lifestyle for females and to help "become the best version of yourself".  The ads will be featured in Glamour, InStyle and Seventeen

Check out this video of the featured female athletes...

If those bodies don't make us motivated to hit the gym, I don't know what will. These girls definitely know how to represent for the female athletes.
